“Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho” is a popular eating and drinking district that is a 3-minute walk from Shinjuku Station’s West Exit, where you can enjoy the Showa retro atmosphere. The opening of the black market around 1947 was the beginning, and with the post-war(world war Ⅱ) reconstruction, izakayas were built and flourished. Korien izakaya Shinjuku

Torien is an Izakaya where you can enjoy fresh seafood and chicken in Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho. This izakaya is open from 12:00 to 23:40 and is open except on New Year’s Day. Torien is also famous as a izakaya with 120 different menus. The popular menu are “Yakitori Moriawase(=assorted Japanese style skewered chicken )” and “Gyusuji Nikomi(=Beef Tendons Simmered in Soy Sauce)”. Five yakitori can be eaten reasonably at around 700 yen. The nice point is that You can choose to drink standing or sitting. It is recommended for both short drinks and slow drinks.. The number of seats is 220, so it is recommended when you go with a large number of people.

② Rakugaki

Takegaki shinjuku izakaya

Rakugaki is a long-established izakaya in Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho. This izakaya is closed only on Wednesdays, but is open from 11:00 to 22:00 every day on other days. The recommended menu is “Tonsoku(boiled pig reg)” and “Yakiton(=Japanese style skewered pig)”.Tonsoku and Yakiton eaten with Rakugaki’s special secret garlic miso are very compatible with liquor and are excellent enough to be ordered by most customers. ③ Kabuto

Kabuto shinjuku izakaya

Kabuto is an izakaya specializing in eel at Omoide Yokocho. Regular holidays are Sundays and public holidays, and the new year’s holiday. Opening hours are from 13:00 to 20:00. In fact, this is a  famous izakaya that has been featured in the media. Recommended is “Hitotohri (=set of 7 grilled eel skewers)”. You can taste  various parts of grilled eel and it is reasonable and popular at 1700 yen. Please try the exquisite eel you can’t taste anywhere else. ④ Kikuya

Kikuya shinjuku izakaya

Kikuya is the izakaya where highball originated. This izakaya is open from 15:00 to 24:00 (Friday to 24:30). I recommend “Chu Highball”. This liquor is said to be the origin of Highball(=whisky and soda). Please try it together as it has excellent compatibility with the popular menu of “Gyusuji Nikomi(=Beef Tendons Simmered in Soy Sauce)” and “Motsuyaki(=grilled pork tripe on a stick)”.
